Alumni in MLB Record Book Wood vs. Aluminum Year-By-Year Batting Year-By-Year Pitching The most notable new league records set this year are Hit-by-Pitch in a season, Garrett Gipe, Danville Dans (18), and team fielding percentage, Twin City Stars (.975). The Stars made only 43 errors in 49 games to equal the fewest errors in a season and to easily eclipse the old percentage record by almost 9 percentage points. |

| Ryan O'Malley of the 2001 Springfield Rifles made his debut in the big leagues a memorable one yesterday. Ryan was called up to start for the Chicago Cubs at Houston because the night before the Cubs/Astros played 18 innings in which yesterday's planned starting pitcher pitched (and won) the final few innings of the marathon game.

![]() Bryce Stowell For the season, Stowell made 8 starts, a total of 10 appearances, was 5-1 and led the league with a 1.52 ERA and in opponent's batting average at .183. His 69 strikeouts were second in the league in total, but first in the league in strikeouts per inning pitched. Three times Stowell fanned more than 10 batters in a game including 12 in a 9-inning game, 11 in 8 innings and 10 in 7.1 innings. In 53.1 innings, the right-hander from La Habra, California, gave up only 4 extra-base hits, 3 doubles and one homer. Two of those doubles were in his last game of the season. His 13 walks resulted in a strikeout/walk ratio of 5/1. Stowell will be a sophomore this fall at Pepperdine University. |

For the first time ever, the Mike Schmidt MVP Award is shared among three players: Scott Simon and Pat Tumilty of the Quincy Gems and Ryne White of the DuPage County Dragons.![]() Ryne White ![]() Scott Simon Simon led the league in batting at .337 (63-187), led in hits with 63, led in total bases by a wide margin with 98, was 4th in slugging at .524, 4th in RBI with 28, 5th in runs with 33, 3rd in homers with 6, second in doubles with 15 and 10th in on-base percentage at .404. Simon had 20 multiple hit games and a 12 game hitting streak during the season. A first-baseman, Simon is from Algonquin, Illinois, who will be a senior this fall at Northern Illinois University. Simon previously was awarded Player of the Week honors for Week #1 of the season as well as Player of the First Half Season. Simon's teammate Pat Tumilty had a very productive season despite batting only .293 by leading the league with 35 RBI, leading the league with 10 homers and 81 total bases (second only to Simon) on just 44 hits. The first baseman/catcher from Naperville, Illinois, also led the league in slugging at .540, was 3rd in on-base percentage at .425, was 3rd in runs with 36, second in walks with 28 and also had 12 stolen bases. Tumilty, who will be a senior this fall at the University of Evansville, previously won a share of the Player of the Week Award in Week #5 and a share of the Player of the Second Half Award. Ryne White had the league's longest hitting streak at 13 games this season, was 2nd in batting at .329 (52-158), 6th in slugging at .475, 4th in on-base percentage at .422, 8th in runs with 29, 5th in hits with 52, 4th in RBI with 28, 4th in doubles with 11, 6th in homers with 6, 4th in total bases with 75 and 3rd in walks with 26. White is an outfielder from Chicago who will be a sophomore this fall at Purdue. |

The 2006 CICL Tournament Player MVP is shared among three players, Bobby Stevens and Michael Stalowy of the Twin City Stars and Evan Button of the Danville Dans. ![]() Bobby Stevens ![]() Michael Stalowy In addition to his game-winning solo homer in the bottom of the 8th inning to win the championship game, Stevens led all players in the tournament with 6 runs scored, tied for 2nd in hits with 8, batted .381 for the tourney to lead the Stars, had a .619 slugging percentage, a .458 on-base percentage and 13 total bases. Stevens hails from Chicago and will be a sophomore this fall at Northern Illinois University. Stalowy parlayed a .286 batting average into a tournament-leading 6 RBI including a 3 run homer in Twin City's opening game against Danville to lead the stars to an 8-4 win. Stalowy is from Joliet, Illinois, and will be a sophomore this fall at Illinois State University. Evan Button led all tourney players with a .556 average (10-18), led with a phenomenal .619 on-base percentage, led in hits with 10 in just 4 games and added 4 stolen bases in 4 attempts. Button is from Lake St. Louis, Missouri, and will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Mississippi. ![]() Evan Button The MVP Pitcher Award for the tournament goes to the top four Twin City Stars pitching staff members for the tournament, Ben Reeser, Alex Guttosch, Mike Manns and Scott Kuhns. These four pitchers combined for 35 innings pitched, allowing only 6 earned runs for an ERA of 1.54, on 30 hits and 38 strikeouts. Ben Reeser (1-0) led the way with 7 shutout innings on 5 hits, Alex Guttosch (1-0) allowed 1 earned run in 9.2 innings, Mike Manns (1-0) 3 earned runs in 11.1 innings and Scott Kuhns (0-1) allowed only 2 earned runs in 7 innings. Reeser is from Bloomington, Illinois, and will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Illinois. Guttosch is from Chicago and will be a junior at Eastern Illinois University. Manns is from New Lenox, Illinois, and will also be a junior at Eastern Illinois. Kuhns is from Prospect Heights, Illinois, and will be a sophomore at Parkland Community College. |

| On the strength of a tie-breaking Bobby Stevens homerun leading off the bottom of the 8th, the Twin City Stars claimed the CICL Tournament Championship with a 3-2 victory over the Danville Dans today at Redbird Field in Normal, Illinois.
The Stars got on the board first with 2 unearned runs in the 2nd inning. With 1 out, David Brumagin singled, Mike McMillan then laid down a perfect bunt up the third base side, the throw to first sailed, allowing Brumagin to score and McMillian to reach 3rd. Michael Stalowy attempted a suicide squeeze and beat the throw, scoring McMillan. ![]() Bobby Stevens ![]() Mike Manns The Dans got a run back in the top of the fourth, when Garrett Gipe homered, bringing the Dans to within 1. The score stayed in favor of the Stars until the 6th inning, when, with 1 out David Harris singled to left field and then stole second. Garrett Gipe was hit by a pitch, putting Dan runners on 1st and 2nd. One out later Chris Newsom worked the count for a walk, filling the bases, Harris then scored the tying run courtesy of a wild pitch. And thats where the score stayed until Bobby Stevens hit what would turn out to be a game and tournament winning home run, his 3rd of the year. Alex Guttosch picked up the win, relieving a tiring Mike Manns in the 7th inning. Guttosch threw 3 shutout innings, striking out 3 Dans in the process. Manns struck out 8 batters in 6 innings of work. For the Dans Tanner Roark went the distance, allowing only 3 runs, 1 earned in 8 innings of work. |

| The Twin City Stars took a 1-0 lead in the CICL Tournament Championship Series Saturday night at Danville Stadium with a 8-4 victory over the Danville Dans.
Twin City starter Shawn McElyea earned the victory, going seven innings while allowing four runs on four hits. Adam Buehne got out a bases-loaded situation in the eighth and Scott Kuhns pitched a perfect ninth to preserve the victory. ![]() Shawn McElyea ![]() Michael Stalowy The Stars scored single runs in the second and third innings, but their big blow came in the five-run fifth inning when Michael Stalowy drilled a 1-0 pitch from Danville starter Jordan Rogers for a three-run homer to left. The Dans defense committed two errors in the contest and both of them led directly to five unearned runs for the Stars. Danville was guilty of stranding 11 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the third and eighth innings. Nick Hardy had a two-run single for the Dans in the third inning and Tom Koenig drove home two with his triple in the sixth. Twin City shortstop Bobby Stevens went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while David Brumagin was 2-for-4. |

| The Player and Pitcher of the Second Half Awards are given on the basis of individual performances for the second half of the regular season. This year's second half began immediately after the All-Star break on July 14 and included games through August 5.
Player and Pitcher of the Year Awards will be announced after the end of the 2006 CICL Tournament. The Player of the Second Half Award is shared this season among three players: Greg Zage and Dan Brewer of the DuPage County Dragons, and Pat Tumilty of the Quincy Gems. ![]() Greg Zage ![]() Dan Brewer ![]() Trevor Feeney This season's Pitcher of the Second Half Award goes to Trevor Feeney of the Twin City Stars. Greg Zage led the league in hitting in the second half at .393 (22-56) and also led in slugging at .589. He tied for 4th in total bases with 33, was 6th in on-base percentage at .424, tied for 7th in hits with 22, tied for 5th in homers with 2 and tied for 6th in doubles with 5. Zage, an outfielder, is from Lake Forest, Illinois, and will be a senior this fall at Davidson. He had previously shared Player of the Week honors for week #5 of the 2006 season. Dan Brewer led the league in total bases with 44, led in hits with 28, led in runs scored with 18, was 5th in slugging at .524, tied for 5th in RBI with 13, tied for 3rd in doubles with 6, tied for 1st in triples with 2, tied for 5th in homers with 2 and was 6th in batting at .333 (28-84). An infielder from Brookfield, Illinois, Brewer will be a sophomore this fall at Bradley. He had previously captured Player of the Week honors for week #7 of the 2006 season. Pat Tumilty tied for the lead in RBI with 17, tied for 1st in homers with 4, was 2nd in slugging at .576, was 2nd in on-base percentage at .468, was 3rd in total bases with 34, tied for 5th in runs scored with 13, was 2nd in walks with 13,tied for 8th in stolen bases with 7 and was 10th in hitting at .322 (19-59). A catcher-first baseman, Tumilty is from Naperville, Illinois, and will be a senior this fall at Evansville. He had previously shared Player of the Week honors for week #5 of the 2006 season. Right-hander Trevor Feeney made 3 starts and 2 relief appearance in the second half going 2-1 with 1 save. He pitched a total of 21 innings and allowed only 2 runs, both earned. His 0.86 ERA led the league by almost a full run over his nearest competitor. In those 4 appearances, Feeney allowed 19 hits, 18 of which were singles (1 double) while striking out 19 and walking only 5 batters. Feeney is from Channahon, Illinois, and will be a junior this fall at Northern Illinois. He had previously shared Pitcher of the Week honors for week #6 of the 2006 season. |

| The Danville Dans outhit the Quincy Gems 16 - 8 to advance to the CICL tournament finals Thursday evening.
Danville's Ricardo Pecina picked up the win and Tim Clubb received the loss. The Gems renowned defensive woes cost them the game with most of the Dan's runs coming off infield hits, fly balls that got past the defense or the three Gems defensive errors. The Dans were only leading by one in the top of the eighth, padded their lead and scared the Gems bats silent with a 2 RBI double by Jon Moore. For the Dans, Tom Koenig went 3-5 with three rbi, and Jon Moore went 2-5 with 3 rbi. The final series to determine the 2006 CICL Tournament Champion will begin in Danville at 6:30 PM, Saturday, August 12, when #3 seed Twin City and #1 seed Danville square off in game #1 of a best of three series. Game two will be at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington on Sunday, time TBA. If necessary, game #3 will be played in Danville at 6:30 PM Monday evening. |

| The Twin City Stars ended the DuPage Dragons season with a 10-6 come from behind win at the Village of Lisle – Benedictine University Sports Complex on Wednesday night.
The Dragons (1-2) jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but saw that evaporate as the Stars scored ten times in the final five frames despite leaving the 17 runners on base in the game. The Stars scored two runs in the fifth, one each in the sixth and seventh, and three runs apiece in the eighth and ninth to advance to the championship series to face the Danville/Quincy winner. The Stars (2-1) started their comeback with a pair of runs in the fifth off starter, Ian Berger. Brett Lancaster and Joey Railey singled with Kyle Cherney drawing a two out walk to load the bases. Ricky Angel followed with an RBI double down the right field line to make it 5-2 Dragons. Twin City added a run in the sixth on an RBI double by Railey and another in the seventh on Lancaster single, chasing Berger out of the game. Berger lasted 6.2 for the Dragons allowing four earned runs on nine hits. Berger walked four and struck out four in the game. The Dragons staked Berger to a 5-0 lead, scoring four unearned runs on Twin City starter, Alex Guttosch. Ryne White doubled with two outs in the first and scored on an RBI single by Dan Brewer. White struck again in the second, scoring Adam Klein from second with a single. The inning should have been over as Angel dropped the ball at first base with Buschini running down the line. The Dragons took advantage scoring two unearned in the frame. Guttosch allowed a couple of unearned runs in the fourth as well. Klein walked ahead of a fielding error by Cherney on a ball hit by Buschini. Klein would steal third and score on a sacrifice fly by White. Another run would score on a Michael Staloway error at third, giving the Dragons their largest cushion at 5-0. Guttosch would depart and earn a no-decision, going six innings allowing five runs (one earned) on eight hits. Guttosch hit a batter, walked four, and struck out seven in his six innings. The Stars feasted on the Dragon bullpen the final 2.2 innings, scoring three in the eighth and ninth innings respectively. Jon Wano (0-1) allowed a leadoff single to Railey in the eighth and walked Stevens before giving way to Peter Wolff. Wolff entered the game and got Cherney to pop up his bunt attempt to third for the first out. That would be the only out recorded by Wolff. Angel coaxed a walk and David Brumagin doubled to plate two to give the Stars their first lead at 6-5. Wolff would then walk Mike McMillan before handing off to White. Staloway promptly singled off White before Kevin Diete grounded into a double play to end the inning. The Dragons answered in the bottom half with a run off Trevor Feeney (1-0). Buschini doubled with one out and scored on a single by Chad Bisnette to cut the deficit to 7-6. That would be the closest the Dragons would come the rest of the night. Twin City added three insurance runs in the ninth off White, highlighted by a Staloway single that gave the Stars their tenth and final run. Feeney was the winner for the Stars working three innings, allowing one run on three Dragon hits. Wano was tagged with the loss, tossing two-thirds of an inning and was charged with two runs. Joey Railey, Mike McMillan, and Brett Lancaster each had three hits for the Stars, while Ricky Angel and Michael Staloway each had a pair of hits as well. Ryne White was 3-3 for the Dragons with a double, two runs batted in, and a run scored. The Dragons left 14 runners on base in their final game of the season and left 33 runners on in the two losses. |

| The Danville Dans took a 1-0 series lead with an 8-7 victory over the Quincy Gems Wednesday night at Danville Stadium.
Danville broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run eighth inning started by Ben Wolgamot's single to center and Evan Button's bunt single. After a failed sacrifice attempt, Nick Hardy singled to left scoring Wolgamot. After David Harris was hit by a pitch from Pat Venditte, who suffered the loss, Danville's Garrett Gipe delivered a bases-loaded sacrifice fly. In the top of the ninth, Quincy pulled within 8-7 on a solo home run by Dan Quinn, who was 3-for-5 with two RBIs. The Gems had runners on first and second with no outs, when the Dans brought in Jordan Rogers against Jesse Seykora. Rogers got Seykora to hit into a double play and then Kevin Hoef was called out on a pop out down the first-base line when he ran into Danville first baseman Garrett Gipe. Quincy manager Josh Owens was ejected following the play. Owens was the fourth person tossed from the game, as Danville had two coaches (Jamie Sailors and Cory Barton) and a catcher (Wyn Diggs) thrown out in the fifth. Dans shortstop Evan Button was the catalyst for Danville, going 5-for-5 with three runs scored. |

Brewer batted .450 for the week (9-20), 2nd best in the league, led the league in slugging at .700, led in hits with 9, led the league with 14 total bases, tied for 3rd in runs with 5, tied for the lead in doubles with 3 and was 6th in on-base percentage at .476. Brewer, a sophomore-to-be at Bradley University, is from Brookfield, Illinois.
The Pitcher of the Week Award goes to right-hander Alex Guttosch of the Twin City Stars. The Chicago native made 1 start during the week and pitched 8 shutout innings and earned a 3-0 victory over Danville on August 2. He struck out 6 and walked only 1 batter in making only his 4th start of the summer. Guttosch will be a junior this fall at Eastern Illinois University. |

| Tonight in Bloomington, the DuPage Dragons were able to even up their best of three series with the Stars, by taking Game 2 by the score of 6-2. Dragons hurler Andrew Beatty was on top of his game throwing 8 innings, allowing 7 hits and no earned runs while striking out 6 Twin City batters.
A scoreless tie was broken in the top of the sixth when, with 1 out, Dan Brewer singled to right field, a balk and a stolen base placed him on third. Greg Zage worked the count for a walk and he promptly stole second. With runners on the corner, Ruairi O'Connor singled, scoring Brewer and advancing Zage to third. Jeff Carroll followed with a sharp single to left scoring Zage. The Dragons put the game away in the 7th, scoring 4 times making the score 6-0. Dan Brewer with the big hit of the inning, a bases loaded double which cleared the bases. The Stars got on the scoreboard in their half of the 7th. Mile McMillan lead off the frame with a single. Michael Stalowy reached on an error. With 1 out Kevin Diete walked, loading the bases. Bobby Stevens then connected for a 2-run double to left center making the score 6-2. Dan Brewer lead the way offensively for the Dragons with 2 hits and 3 RBIs, Ruairi O'Connor also connected for 2 hits for the Dragons. |

| The Twin City Stars outlasted the DuPage Dragons in round one of the 2006 CICL playoffs with a 3-1 victory in 13 innings at the Village of Lisle – Benedictine University Sports Complex.
The Stars (1-0) plated two runs in the top of the thirteenth against Matt Jernstad. Joey Railey struck out to start the frame and then the next four hitters reached base. Bobby Stevens doubled and scored on a Kyle Cherney single. Cherney would come around to score on a David Brumagin single. Jernstad (0-1) recorded two outs in the frame allowing two runs on four hits. Jernstad gave way to Jon Wano, who got Brett Lancaster to pop out with the bases loaded. The Dragons (0-1) entered the bottom of the ninth trailing 1-0, but tied the game in dramatic fashion. Kevin Dubler led off with a walk, but was stranded at first as Greg Zage and Chad Bisnette struck out. With two outs, Jeff Carroll doubled and Sean Osborne was hit by a pitch loading the bases for Adam Klein. Klein was walked on four errant pitches by Mike Manns. Manns recovered to strike out Buschini on three pitches to push the game to extra innings. Manns (1-0) was effective, working the final 5.2 for the win. Manns allowed the one run on three, striking out five while walking seven Dragon hitters. Both starters were superb and weren’t around to see the end of the game. Ben Reeser threw seven plus shutout innings, striking out six batters without issuing a walk. D.J. Mauldin was just as effective, tossing seven frames allowing an unearned on three hits. Mauldin struck out five and walked five as well. Twin City struck first with a run in the fourth. Cherney walked and Ricky Angel singled, prompting a sacrifice bunt from Brumagin. Mauldin threw the bunt attempt from Brumagin into right field allowing the Stars to take a 1-0 lead. Fireworks occurred after the Brumagin bunt when Mike McMillan was called out on strikes. Josh Manning argued the call and was ejected from the game. The Dragons had opportunities throughout the game with the biggest chance occurring in the sixth. The bases were loaded with two outs and Dubler at the plate. Dubler lined a Reeser pitch towards left center field, when Brumagin made a diving catch to preserve the lead. DuPage would leave the bases loaded in the ninth and thirteenth, stranding 16 runners total in the game. Peter Wolff and Scott Boleski combined for five great innings, allowing only one hit while striking out five. Kyle Cherney 2-4 in the game with two singles, two runs scored, and an RBI. Adam Klein had the only Dragon run batted in, while Sean Osborne and Adam Buschini each had two hits in the loss. The two teams will meet in an elimination game for the Dragons tomorrow in Bloomington at Illinois Wesleyan University. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. |

The Danville Dans, the #1 seed, will host the #4 seed Quincy Gems at 6:30 PM to open the best-of-three series. The second game of the series will be on Tuesday evening at Quincy, also with a 6:30 PM start. If the teams split the first two games, a third game to determine the series winner will be played in Danville Wednesday night at 6:30 PM. The DuPage County Dragons, the #2 seed, will host the #3 seed Twin City Stars at 7:00 PM in Lisle to open their best-of-three series. The second game of the series will be on Tuesday evening at either IWU or ISU (TBA), with a 6:30 PM start. If the teams split the first two games, a third game to determine the series winner will be played in Lisle Wednesday night at 7:00 PM. The winners of the first two series will play a best-of-three final series, with the higher seed having home field advantage. |

| A five-run seventh inning allowed the Danville Dans to claim a share of the CICL championship with a 9-5 victory over the DuPage County Dragons Saturday night at Danville Stadium.
The Dans, the 2005 CICL champions, share the honors this season with the Dragons. Based on league tiebreakers, Danville has earned the No. 1 seed for the postseason tournament, while DuPage County will be the No. 2 seed. The Dragons held a 5-3 lead heading into the seventh inning when a leadoff walk to Danville's Devin Hicks started a five-run rally. Nick Hardy's run-scoring single tied the game at 5-5 and then Billy Alvino gave the Dans the lead with a RBI double to left. The inning was capped by Garrett Gipe's two-run single to right-center. Gipe got the night started for Danville with a solo home run to left in the second inning. DuPage's Dan Brewer went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, while Greg Zage had a pair of doubles. |

| With today's 4-0 win by Dubois County at Twin City, the playoff picture was made a bit clearer. Twin City and Quincy both finished with 24-20 records but since Twin City won the season series 5 games to 3 against Quincy, the Stars are the #3 tournament seed and Quincy is #4.
Tonight's game between DuPage and Danville will determine the #1 and #2 seeds. That game is in progress. The Dubois vs. Twin City box score will be posted when it is received. |

| The Twin City Stars clinched the final playoff berth with a 7-6 victory over the Danville Dans on Friday night.
The win for the Stars creates a three-way tie possibility for the regular-season CICL title between the DuPage County Dragons, the Dans and the Stars. Currently, the Dragons hold a 1-game lead over the Dans and the Stars, as all three teams still have one game remaining. Danville hosts DuPage County on Saturday, while Twin City is at home against Dubois County. Shawn McElyea earned the victory for the Stars, going six innings allowing one run on four hits. Twin City rallied from a 5-1 deficit with three runs in the third inning, a run in the fourth and two in the fifth with Michael Stalowy driving home the go-ahead run with a single to left. Stalowy was 2-for-4 with a run score and an RBI, while shortstop Bobby Stevens was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Danville starter Tanner Roark suffered the loss, while reliever David Born retired 12 of the final 13 hitters of the game. The Dans loss spoiled a season-best night for designated hitter Wyn Diggs, who went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Other top offensive performers for Danville were Devin Hicks (2-for-4) and Tom Koenig (3-for-3). |

| Another barnburner came down to the final inning but ended in the home team’s favor as the Bombers slipped past the Galesburg Pioneers by a score of 4-3. The Bombers jumped ahead early with two runs in the bottom half of the first inning. Bradley Goldsmith led the inning off with a single and later stole second to put himself in scoring position. Left Fielder John Cummins’ single advanced Goldsmith to third who scampered home off a sacrifice fly by Kasey Wahl. Josh Irvin chimed in with an RBI single to score Cummins and put the Bombers up 2-0. Starting pitcher Kris Rupeke kept the Pioneers hitless for the first three innings but gave up the first of three runs in the top of the fourth. With the Pioneers down by three short stop Scott Gracey and right fielder Brian Clifford both singled and moved into scoring position by a wild pitch. Nate Marquardt drove in the first run with a single that scored Gracey and made the score 3-1 after four innings of ball. Holding the Bombers to three runs the Pioneers scored once in the top of the sixth and ninth innings to tie the game heading into the bottom half. Ryan Campbell singled in the home half of the ninth to start the winning rally. The speedy Langdon Potts came in to pinch run and stole second to move 90 ft. closer. An Intentional walk to David Burns led to a sacrifice bunt by Wes fink to move both runners up a bag. One walk later, which loaded the bases, brought Danny Bomback to the plate who was hit by the first pitch that allowed the winning run to cross the plate.
Bombers’ right fielder Josh Irvin stayed hot with a three for four night and an RBI. The top of the order followed close behind Irvin’s lead with the one and two hole hitters, Goldsmith and Cummins, going two for four. For the Pioneers Tommy Finn and Brian Harris both had tallied two hits and one RBI on the night. |

| The six other CICL teams are looking up at the DuPage Dragons in the standings due to a 5-4 win over the Twin City Stars Thursday night. The Dragons now sit a half game up on the Danville Dans.
The Dragons (25-18) scored the go-ahead run in the eighth after allowing two Twin City runs in the top half of the inning. Greg Zage doubled into right field off the first base bag and moved to third on a Sean Osborne sacrifice. With two strikes, Adam Klein laid down a bunt and pinch runner, Chad Bisnette, scored on a close play at the plate to recapture the lead at 5-4. D.J. Mauldin worked a perfect ninth to save the win for reliever, Scott Boleski (2-1). Mauldin struck out two of the three hitters for his second save. The Stars (23-19) fought back twice in the ballgame, tying the game at two and then again at four. Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Brett Lancaster and Joey Railey singled with one out with Lancaster scoring on an RBI double by Bobby Stevens. DuPage responded with solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings. After back-to-back walks with two outs to Osborne and Klein, Mike McMillan dropped a fly ball in left off Jeff Carroll’s bat to give the Dragons a 3-2 lead off Star reliever, Tristan Facer. Facer (1-4) went three frames out of the bullpen and allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits. Facer walked three and struck out two in his eleventh appearance. The Dragons plated another run in the seventh off Facer on an RBI single by Ryne White. Dan Brewer tripled off the wall in right center with one out and scored on the White single. Starters Ian Berger and Mike McManns didn’t factor in the decision. Berger worked the first six for the Dragons allowing two runs on eight hits, while striking out five hitters. McManns lasted five innings also allowing two runs while recording five strikeouts. Twin City tied the game in the eighth with two runs on Scott Boleski. Boleski hit leadoff man, David Brumagin, and allowed a double to Kevin Diete. Rob Brockel lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Brumagin and Mike McMillan singled to tie the game at four. Ryne White hit his fourth blast of the season to provide the Dragons with their first run of the game with another run coming in the second on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded by Carroll. White finished the game 2-4 with a home run and two RBI. Greg Zage also had two hits for the Dragons, including a leadoff double in the eighth. David Brumagin led the Stars with three hits, going 3-3 with a hit by pitch and two runs scored. The Dragons are off tomorrow and travel to Danville on Saturday to play for their first ever CICL regular season title. Game time is 6:30 p.m. |

| The Galesburg Pioneers slipped by the Bombers tonight by the score of 5-2. With a 2-2 tie entering the top of the Pioneers managed to scrape up three runs due to a few errant plays by the Bombers. A routine ground ball, fielded by third baseman Danny Bomback, was overthrown and allowed base runner Brian Harris to advance to third. In the same play Cummins tried to catch Harris at third but overthrew the bag, which allowed Harris to scamper across the plate to give the Pioneers a one run lead. Nate Marquardt singled and later advanced to third on a double off the bat of Austin Markel. Tommy Finn squared around to bunt and squeeze Marquardt in safely making the score 4-2. Finn was also safe on the play. With the bases loaded Scott Gracey hit a deep sac fly to right field to allow another run in, which rounded out the scoring for the inning. The Bombers went down one, two, three in the bottom half of the ninth to end the game.
John Ross Ramirez started for the Pioneers and pitched a solid 5 innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs. Davy Fields (4-2) followed with 3 scoreless innings to get the win and Bryce Ahrent recorded his second save of the year with a perfect ninth. On the hitting side Austin Markel’s 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI led the Pioneers. The Bombers’ Jeremy Keuster pitched a solid six and two third innings only allowing two runs on four hits. Bradley Goldsmith went 1-2 at the plate with a run scored and John Cummins was 1-3 with a sacrifice fly and RBI. |

| After a 4-0 lead in the first inning in a suspended game from July 19th, runs were hard to come by as the Quincy Gems and the Springfield Rifles split a doubleheader with the Gems winning game 1 7-1 and the Rifles winning game 2 2-1 in 9 innings.
The Gems led 4-0 before the rain came on a walk by Pat Minogue, a single to right by Jake Owens, a single to center by Scott Simon then a 2 rbi double to center field by Dan Quinn and a 2 rbi single to right center by Eric Law. The Rifles started Tyler Buhlig when the game resumed and the Gems scored 3 more runs in the 2nd inning on a walk to Minogue, an rbi double to left center bs by Simon then another double down the right field line by Quinn and an rbi single to center by Pat Tumilty. Buhlig then settled in and this ended the scoring for the Gems. The Rifles scored an unearned run in the 6th inning when Kyle Dudley led off with a double down the right field line and scored on a fielders choice hit by Marcus Artner and a throwing error by the pitcher. Hitting leaders for the Gems were Dan Quinn 3-4 with 3 rbi and 2 runs, Eric Law 3-4 and Scott Simon 2-4 with 1 rbi and 2 runs. Ryan Meyers pitched all 7 innings and raised his record to 6-1. Justin Carr was 2-3 and Kyle Dudley was 1-3 with 1 run for the Rifles. Game 2 was a pitchers duel with each team scoring a run in the 6th inning then the Rifles scored an unearned run in the 9th for the victory. The Dans scored first after Simon singled to right center and Quinn was safe on a fielding error by the center fielder which sent Simon to 2nd base. Both runners advanced on a balk and then both runners advanced on a wild pitch. The Rifles tied the score when Casey Spears beat out a bunt to 3rd base then scored on a single to left center by Kyle Dudley who took second on the throw home. The single was just over the head of the shortstop and Spears kept running. When the center fielder over ran the ball and threw home, Spears had streaked across the plate to tie the score at 1-1. Kyle Dudley led off the 9th and was hit by the pitch then sacrificed to second on a sacrifice bunt by Marcus Artner. Dudley then attempted to steal 3rd and kept running home as the throw by the catcher went past the third baseman. The Rifles had no one with multiple hits in game 2. The Quincy hitting leader in game 2 was Scott Simon who was 2-4 with 1 run. There were no RBIs in game 2. The Rifles starter, Jake Walsh, who was making his only appearance of the season and filling in for injured players won the the game while striking out 12 batters. |

| In Huntingburg, Indiana tonight Brandon Cooney kept the Dubois County Bombers playoff hopes alive by tossing a complete game that ended in a 5-3 victory over the Pioneers of Galesburg. The hard throwing right-hander kept the Pioneer batters at bay all night as he as he struck out 11 and allowed only three hits. The Bomber offense was there to back Cooney as well. In the first inning the Bombers Kasey Wahl roped a two out double, advanced to third on a throwing error by Pioneer’s starting pitcher Bret Harvel and scored when Harvel balked giving the Bombers a 1-0 lead. In the third inning the Bombers’ Justin Ferreira stayed hot by hitting a single and later scoring on Bradley Goldsmith’s RBI single to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead.
Galesburg showed some life in the fourth with back to back walks by Nate Marquardt and Brian Harris and an RBI single off the bat of Austin Markel. Markel later drew a throw down to second base on a successful steal attempt that allowed Harris to sneak home and tie the game at two apiece. But the Bombers offense quickly took a 3-2 lead in their half of the fourth on a walk and two Pioneer errors and added two more in the fifth on RBI singles by Josh Irvin and Brad Sashko. Meanwhile, the stellar pitching of Cooney was too strong as he kept the Pioneers to one run the rest of the way. Catcher Brad Sashko led the way for the Bombers at the plate going 2-3 with one run scored and an RBI. Nate Marquardt and Brian Harris each recorded an RBI for the Pioneers. Brandon Cooney pitched a three hit complete game for his first win of the season against five losses. Bret Harvel (2-4) pitched seven innings and took the loss for Pioneers. |

| Twin City broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth on a Joey Railey run-scoring single, and was able to hold on for a 3-0 victory over the Dans of Danville tonight at Redbird Field in Normal.
Alex Guttosch (1-3) threw 8 shutout innings, allowing only 4 hits while striking out 6. With 2 outs in the fifth Ryan Eigsti walked and stole second. Railey then followed with his single to put the Stars on top. Twin City added 2 insurance runs in the 8th. Bobby Stevens led off the inning with a bunt and was sacrificed to second by Kyle Cherney. One out later David Brumagin singled to right field, scoring Stevens. Not done yet, Brumagin stole second. and Kevin Diete singled, notching his team leading 31st RBI. Guttosch worked out of a couple jams, most notably in the fifth when a lead off single Chris Newsom combined with a 2 base fielding error on the Stars put him at third with no outs. But Guttosch was unfazed by the error and got the next 3 batters in order to preserve the scoreless tie. Ricky Angel and David Brumagin each had 2 hits for the Stars while Billy Alvino connected for 2 hits for the Dans. |

| Big innings were the rule tonight in Springfield as the Rifles and the Danville Dans split a doubleheader.
In game 1, the Dans scored 6 runs in the 5th, on 3 hits and 5 walks to take a 6-0 lead then scored single runs in the 6th and 7th off a Rifles reliever then held on for an 8-6 victory as the Rifles scored 6 runs in the 7th on 3 hits, an infield error and 2 walks. In game 2, the Rifles scored 5 runs in the 2nd on 2 hits, 2 infield errors, a hit batter and 2 walks then the Dans came back with 5 in the 4th on 3 hits, an infield error and 3 walks. After the Dans scored 2 runs in the 5th the Rifles came back with 4 in the 5th on 4 hits and 2 walks. Dans' big hits in game 1 were a 2 rbi double by Garrett Gipe after 3 walks to load the bases followed by a 2 rbi single to center by Wyn Diggs. The Rifles started the 7th with a single down the left field line by Ryan Gryzwa followed by 2 walks and Marcus Artner's infield grounder which was mishandled for an error and a run scored. Zach Stead followed with a single thru the left side for another run and the bases were still loaded. Colby Luttrell then hit a triple to right center for 3 more runs and Justin Carr grounded out to 2nd for another run and an 8-6 score. The final out was foul fly out to left field. Rifles' big hits in game 2 the 2nd inning was a 2 rbi single down the right field line by Zach Stead. The Dans Chris Newsom had a 2 rbi double to right center and a single thru the left side by Steven Watson drove home 2 runs in the 4th. Jon Moore's double down the left field line drove home a run in the 5th and he came home on a single thru the left side by Tom Koenig to give the Dans a 7-5 lead. The Rifles came right back with 4 runs driven in by an rbi single to right center by Justin Carr, followed by an rbi single to left center by Lance Rhodes and a 2 rbi single thru the left side by Cory Coquillard. Game 1 hitting leaders for Danville were Billy Alvino 4-4 with 1 rbi and 1 run, Garrett Gipe 1-2 with 2 rbi and 1 run, David Harris 1-2 with 1 run and Wyn Diggs with 2 RBI. Starter Ricardo Pecina went 6.1 innings to get the win to advance to 5-1. Reliever David Born earned his 3rd save. Game 1 hitting leaders for Springfield were Zach Stead 3-4 with1 rbi and 1 run and Colby Luttrell 2-4 with 3 rbi and 1 run. There were no multiple hits for Danville players in game 2 however Chris Newsom and Steven Watson each had 2 rbi. There were no multiple hits for Springfield players in game 2 however Zach Stead and Cory Coquillard each had 2 rbi. Ramon Delgado pitched the final 3.2 innings toget the win to advance to 5-3. |

| In Huntingburg, Indiana tonight, the Dubois County Bombers got back on the winning side of things with a 3-1 victory over the Galesburg Pioneers. The Bombers got the dead wood out of their bats in the second inning when Josh Irvin doubled and Cameron Howell singled him home. Bradley Goldsmith followed with a two out double scoring Howell to open up a 2-0 lead. They increased the lead to 3-0 in the fourth when Justin Ferreira doubled and came in to score on Goldsmith single. Galesburg got on the scoreboard for their only run in the fifth on singles by Scott Gracey and Frankie Meade followed by a sacrifice fly by Brian Clifford.
The Pioneers managed to out hit the Bombers 13 to 11 but clutch pitching from Bomber starter Brent Wendholt kept them to just one run. Wendholt, who improved his record to 6-3, threw seven strong frames allowing one run and striking out four. Justin Ferreira led the way for the Bombers with a perfect 3-3 night at the plate with a single, two doubles and a walk. Josh Irvin continued his consistent hitting going 3-4 with two doubles. Bo Irons and Frankie Meade each contributed 3 hits for Galesburg. Cole Stipovich (2-3) threw a complete game for the Pioneers, allowing three runs on 11 hits. Cole Uebelhor earned his second save of the season by throwing two scoreless frames for the Bombers. |

| Four home runs by Pat Tumilty, Travis Sweet, Jesse Seykora and Eric Law led to the Gems 10-7 victory in Game 1 of the double header against the Dupage Dragons. Travis Sweet was the player of the game, he went 3-3 with 4 RBI off of a Grand Slam over the left field wall followed by a bunt single and a double to the left field corner.
Pat Tumilty's solo homer tied the Gems team record of 10 in a season set by Ryan Duncheon. Nick Dunning got the win and Matt German the save. Matt Gernstead was assigned the loss for Dupage. The Dragons earned the split in game 2 after the Gems committed three errors in the first two innings. The errors combined with 5 dragon hits by Kevin Dubler, Dan Brewer and Ryne White in the first led to three of the Dragon's 4 runs all unearned. Dragon's Andrew Beatty pitched effectively against the Gems going 6 innings and allowing six hits and the Gems two runs. Scott Boleski received the save and Gems starter Brady Decker the loss. The Gems nearly mounted a comeback in the bottom of the 7th inning loading the bases with one out but were unable to come up with the runs. |
