Neal Cotts Latest CICL Alum to go BIG!
Neal Cotts is the most recent CICL Alumnus to reach the Major Leagues. Neal, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Chicago White Sox, played for the Quincy Gems in the summers of 1999 and 2000. In 1999, Cotts made 20 appearances, all but one in relief, and tied for the league lead with 7 saves while posting a 1.27 ERA and a 2-1 record in 35-1/3 innings. His ERA would have led the league had he had enough innings to qualify. In 2000, Cotts was used as a starter, making 11 starts going 4-4, and led the league in innings with 78-2/3, strikeouts with 88 and was 3rd in opponents batting average at .194. His ERA in 2000 was 2.75.
