| The DuPage Dragons announced that Benedictine University assistant coach Ryan Buchanan has joined Head Coach Bobby Sherrard’s staff as an assistant coach for the 2005 inaugural season.
“Ryan has a tremendous knowledge of the DuPage community,” Head Coach Bobby Sherrard said. “He’s a great young baseball coaching personality and will fit in with the staff nicely.” Buchanan, a 2004 graduate of Benedictine with a degree in communications, just completed his first year as an assistant at his alma mater working as a hitting and fielding instructor under legendary coach John Ostrowski who has registered over 700 wins. Buchanan is also the head coach of the school’s junior varsity program. “I am very excited about the challenge of working with top collegiate players,” Buchanan said. “The Dragons have assembled a great team and staff that I am looking forward to helping this summer.” As a player, Buchanan was a three-year starter at first base. He was twice named to the all-conference team and earned back-to-back team MVP awards for the Eagles. As a senior, Buchanan became the fifth Benedictine player to earn All-America honors. He hit .415 with nine homers and 53 RBI, and also led the team with 68 hits and 17 doubles at first base in his final year. He put up even bigger power numbers as a junior drilling 13 homers and driving in 56. Buchanan also has coaching experience working with the Jack Perconte Sports Academy in Lisle, and spent four years working with Richwoods Youth Baseball in Peoria. A native of Peoria, Buchanan graduated from Peoria Richwoods High School in 1999. |
