Saturday, March 17, 2007CICL Mourns the loss of Duffy Bass |
|---|
| Duffy Bass, owner and general manager of the Twin City Stars of the CICL, passed away early Wednesday morning at the age of 81. Duffy's tenure with the league started in 1982 when he founded the Stars and his 25 year ownership was the longest affiliation with the league since its inception in 1963.
Duffy had also been head coach and teacher at Illinois State University for 25 years, retiring in 1988. His Redbird team of 1969 captured the NCAA Collegiate Division National Championship. He was a member of the Illinois Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. In his "spare time," Duffy served 28 years as a member of the McLean County Board and served on many other civic organizations. Although baseball coaching was his profession, Duffy was an inspiration for people from walks of life, a friend and mentor, and an example of how to live life the right way. If you knew Duffy at all, you have at least one story, one memory that makes you a better person today. He will truly be missed. Coach is survived by his wife Helen, three chidren and three grandchildren. Memorials can be made to the Duffy Bass Endowed Scholarship at ISU or the First United Methodist Church, Normal, Illinois.
