Friday, February 4, 2005Dragons Announce Bobby Sherrard as Head Coach |
|---|
| Today the DuPage Dragons announced Bobby Sherrard as their head coach for 2005 season. The Texas native has a long history of successful coaching at all levels of baseball.
“As we looked at coaching candidates, Bobby stood head and shoulders above the rest. His on-field winning percentage as well as his player and coaches contacts made him the clear choice to be the Dragons’ first Head Coach.” said Dragons’ Managing Partner Mike Thiessen In two years as the Head Coach of Lubbock Christian University, Sherrard had an 86-44 record, an .6615% winning percentage. While Head Coach, Sherrard had four All-Americans, six All-Conference players and four Academic All-Americans. Additionally, nine of his players signed professional baseball contracts. “I’m honored and excited to be named the Dragons’ head coach,” commented Sherrard. “The Dragons will play an exciting brand of baseball. Our fans will see plenty of action on the base paths and the kids will play hard every day.” Sherrard went on to say, “The Dragons have signed some outstanding baseball players, but more importantly they are great individuals. Our players will make the fans proud both on and off the field.” The Dragons open the 2005 CICL baseball season Friday June 17th at the Lisle-Benedictine Sports Complex. The Dragons’ schedule is also highlighted by games on the Fourth of July and the CICL All-Star Game and banquet on July 13th. Tickets are available at www.dupagedragons.com or by calling the Dragons’ office at 630.241.2255. |
Thursday, February 3, 2005Sammy Sosa and the CICL |
|---|
| As everyone knows by now, the trade between the Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioloes involving future Hall of Famer Sammy Sosa was finally consummated on Wednesday. What is probably not well known is that one of the players involved in the trade is a CICL alumni.
David Crouthers, one of three players sent to the Cubs by the Orioles, played for the Bluff City Bombers in 1999, batting .305 in 48 games after finishing his freshman year at SIU-Edwardsville. Despite that success in his first venture into the wood bat arena, Dave was drafted as a pitcher by the Orioles in 2001 and is 28-22 in 4 minor league seasons. |
