DuPage Dragons to Play at Benedictine University
The Central Illinois Collegiate League (CICL) and Benedictine University announced today that the DuPage Dragons of the CICL will play their home games at the new Sports Complex at Benedictine University in Lisle for the next five years.

“We are excited that the CICL and the DuPage Dragons have chosen to call Benedictine University and Lisle their home,” said William Carroll, President of Benedictine University. “The Sports Complex continues to provide a variety of entertainment for the residents of Lisle and surrounding communities.”

The Sports Complex is a joint venture between the Village of Lisle and Benedictine University. The complex features a lighted baseball stadium with 1,250 fixed seats and the ability to hold more than 3,000 fans on berm, picnic and luxury seating. The complex also has a lighted football/soccer stadium, a lighted softball field and an Olympic-caliber, nine-lane track.

“The CICL has always desired a presence in Northern Illinois and specifically the Chicago area,” said Ron Riggle, Commissioner of the CICL. “The CICL is excited about playing at the new Sports Complex and exhibiting the high quality of baseball talent the league offers.”

More than 150 Major League players have played in the CICL since the league’s inception in 1963 including Hall of Famers Kirby Puckett and Mike Schmidt. The Chicago Cubs’ new broadcaster Bob Brenly and former Cubs’ catcher Joe Girardi are also CICL alumni. The list of CICL alumni with ties to the Chicago White Sox includes Jack Perconte and Neal Cotts.

The CICL is one of eight summer collegiate leagues certified by the NCAA that qualify for financial support from Major League Baseball. Many in baseball believe collegiate summer league baseball represents the highest level of non-professional baseball in America.
