TOURNAMENT SEEDINGS The first game of the tournament on Friday, August 10, will feature the 4th seeded Danville Dans as visitor against the top seeded DuBois County Bombers at 4:00 PM. Friday, August 10: Dubois County Bombers 5, Danville Dans 1 Friday, August 10: Dubois County Bombers 5, DuPage County Dragons 2 The Dubois County Bombers topped the DuPage County Dragons Saturday afternoon in Lisle, Ill., 5-2 to capture the CICL tournament title. The victory gives the Bombers, who captured the regular season title on August 6, a sweep of the CICL.The Bombers struck first with a run in the bottom of the second inning. Brandon Knox singled and came around to score on a Chris Affinito double. Rich Gorman led off the bottom of the third with a double and scampered home on a Casey Martin groundout to increase the lead to 2-0. DuPage County struck back in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Duffy and Connor Powers opened the inning with back-to-back singles and each scored after Cole Tyrell produced the Dragons' third straight base hit. The Bombers broke the tie for good with a run on three hits in the seventh. Rich Gorman reached on a fielder's choice and came around on a Casey Martin single to score his second run of the afternoon. The eighth inning produced more of the same as the Bombers tacked on two insurance runs. Brandon Knox singled to open the frame and then stole second. Consecutive walks to Chris Affinito and Langdon Potts loaded the bases for Vince Doster. Doster responded with a single over a drawn in infield, scoring Knox and Affinito. Dallas Sims started the game for the Bombers and lasted 5-1/3 innings. The right hander allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out four. From there the Bomber bullpen slammed the door. Andrew Scheid, Travis Lamar and Dylan Cupples combined to hold the Dragons scoreless over the final 3-2/3 innings. Lamar (5-3) picked up the win and Cupples recored his league-leading ninth save. Tom Filip (4-3) relieved for starter Andrew Beatty in the fifth for DuPage and took the loss despite allowing only one run over three innings. Brandon Knox led the Bomber hitting attack with three hits and also scored two runs. Bradley Goldsmith finished 2-for-3 and Rich Gorman added a hit and two runs scored. Casey Martin and Vince Doster eached added two RBIs for the Bombers who close their season at 27-23 including tournament games. |
