Brian Smiley, Field Manager, Dubois County Bombers
Leading the Bombers in his first season coaching with the CICL is Head Coach Brian Smiley. Brian is from Evansville Indiana. Brian is a recent Alumnus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he majored in Advertising and Public Relations.
His junior year at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Brian started in 49 of the 50 games he played. He started 36 games at third base, eight as the designated hitter and five in the outfield. Brain has an all around impressive record, with a .286 batting average and ranking second for the Trojans with 15 stolen bases. He scored 33 runs and tied for fifth on the team with 29 RBI.
Before playing for the Trojans, Brian spent a season at both Triton College and Lincoln Trail Community College, batting a .411 at Triton and a .370 in 2005 at Lincoln Trail.
Brian was awarded three-time All Big 8 Conference selection while playing for Mt. Vernon High School and helped his team win conference titles in both 2002 and 2003.
Robby Kuzdale, Outfield, Danville Dans
Robby Kuzdale, #3 for the Danville Dans, attends High Point University where he plays for the Panthers baseball team. Robby will be a sophomore next year and is majoring in Business.
As an outfielder this year Robby has a .275 batting average, 17 runs, 28 hits and 14 RBI. Robby is also one of the league leaders in on base percentage with .417.
Robby is from Lutz Florida and graduated from Tampa Jesuit High School where he was a member of a four time Florida state semi-finalist team. He was also honored as 1st team All Conference, All County, and All State in 2005.
Venson Doster, Outfield, Dubois County Bombers
Coming to the CICL from Ohio Dominican is #6 for the Dubois Bombers, Venson Doster. He is from Lanham, MD and is a senior Business Administration Major.
Doster, who is playing outfield for the Bombers, has a .273 Batting average, 11 runs, 21 hits, and 12 RBI so far this season. With 16 steal attempts Doster is also one of the leading players in this category.
Doster is the fastest player on the Ohio Dominican Panther's team, running the 60 yard dash in 6.5 seconds. Doster also stole 56 bases in 61 attempts and in only 57 games last season.
Chris Martin, Field Manager, Quincy Gems
This is Chris Martin’s first season as head coach for the Quincy Gems, but he is no stranger to the CICL or the city of Quincy. While playing ball in college Chris also played with the CICL, before eventually going on to play with the New York Yankees. Chris believes that what he learned as a CICL player was major a stepping stone to getting into the majors.
Chris just finished his first season as head coach at Quincy Notre Dame High School. He played for Quincy High School where he received Quincy Herald Whig player of the Year. Throughout his college career Chris played for Eastern Illinois University, a division one school.
Jason Nappi, Outfield, Danville Dans
Playing outfield and 3rd base for the Danville Dans is #7 Jason Nappi. This is Nappi’s first year playing with the CICL.
Nappi is from Birmingham Alabama and attends Mississippi State University where he will be a sophomore majoring in Banking and Finance.
Nappi was a three-year starter at multiple positions and two-time all-state standout at Mountain Brook High School. He hit .505 with nine home runs and 36 RBI as a senior in 2006. He earned Birmingham News Super All-State honors as a third baseman and Alabama Sports Writers Association "Super 10" honors as a designated hitter.
John Lee, Infield, DuPage County Dragons
#11 for the DuPage Dragons is John Lee from Naperville, IL. This is Lee's first season with the CICL playing infield for the Dragons.
Lee attends Michigan State University where he is entering his sophomore year. In 2006, Lee saw action in 25 games and started in eight for the MSU baseball team. He collected 12 hits, six RBI, six runs and a double in 41 at bats. He also had a batting average of .293.
Zack Troilo, Outfield, Quincy Gems
Playing outfield and wearing #3 for the Quincy Gems is Zack Troilo. So far this season Zack has a .277 batting average with 2 homeruns and 9 RBI's. Zack is also leading the league in runs scored with 17.
Zack is a Junior at Rockhurst University majoring in biology. He plays for the Rockhurst Hawks and started 51 games as a sophomore last year, batting .294 with a team high of 39 runs, 26 stolen bases, 2 home runs and 17 RBI.
Ricky Bowen, RHP, Danville Dans
Pitching for the Danville Dans is Ricky Bowen from Jasper Alabama. Ricky attends Mississippi State where he will be a Sophomore and is majoring in physical education.
Ricky was a two-time all-state selection at Sumiton Christian School in Jasper, Alabama. With a 1.54 earned run average as a senior and a team-best of 96 strikeouts and issued only 20 walks in 80 innings. He was also named in 2005 to both the Alabama Sportswriters and Alabama High School Athletics Association all-state teams.
Cory Coquillard, Catcher, Quincy Gems
Catching this year for the Quincy Gems is # 24 Cory Coquillard. Last summer Cory played with the Springfield team making this Cory’s second season with the CICL. So far, Cory has a .340 batting average which is one of the best in the league with 18 hits, 9 runs and 13 RBI.
Cory is from Niles Michigan and attends Rockhurst University where he will be a junior, majoring in business management.
Cory started 26 games his freshman year playing for the Rockhurst Hawks, batting at a .209 with 1 home run and 11 RBI. He also threw out 8 runners in 18 stolen base attempts.
Mark Viramontes, Field Manager, DuPage County Dragons
This is Mark’s second season with the CICL coaching for the DuPage Dragons. In the 2006 summer season Mark led the Dragons to an overall record of 25 – 19, which was last season’s league best.
Mark is also the current catching coach and field supervisor for the San Diego Toreros who were ranked fourth in the country with a record of 43 – 16.
Since 1995, when Mark’s coaching career began, he has been a part of a number of different university teams including East Los Angeles College and California State University of Los Angeles. In 2004 and 2005 Mark coached in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Brewster Whitecaps. Mark was also an Associate Scout for the Cincinnati Reds.
Bradley Riegler, RHP, DupPage County Dragons
Wearing number 22 and pitching for the DuPage Dragons is Bradley Riegler. Bradley will be a sophomore at the University of Illinois Chicago where is majoring in Accounting. Riegler is from Downers Growth, Illinois. Bradley was chosen as a Three-time All-West Suburban Gold selection his senior year when he went 8-2 with an ERA of 1.25, while fanning 60 batters in 50 innings. Bradley also batted .360 as a senior with two homers and 31 RBI. During his junior season Bradley went 4-4 with 50 strikeouts in 42 innings and was chosen for the All-Area squad as a sophomore.
Ryan Schimpf, IF, Danville Dans
Playing second and third base for the Danville Dan’s is Ryan Schimpf from Covington, Louisiana. Ryan has had a strong start to his first season with the CICL. So far Ryan has a .366 batting average, the fourth highest batting average in the entire league. Ryan also has 8 RBI and has hit one home run. He is listed as a leader in eight of the leagues leadership categories including on base percentage, total bases, hits, and batting average.
Before playing for the CICL Ryan played second base for St. Paul’s High School, where he had a number of major accomplishments. Ryan was awarded class 5A all- state honors batting .419 with 12 homeruns and 37 RBI. Ryan was also the MVP three times and was first team all-district.
Ryan is currently a sophomore at Louisiana State University where he plays infield and is majoring in Athletic Training.
Jake Walsh, RHP, Danville Dans
#2 for the Danville Dans is Jake Walsh. This is Jake's second year playing for the CICL as a member of the Danville team.Jake is a right handed pitcher from Springfield Illinois. Jake just finished his sophomore year at Robert Morris College in Springfield where he plays for the Eagles. This spring Jake opened the Eagles season with a 9-1 win pitching a complete game one hitter and also went on to pitch the first no hitter for Robert Morris.
Langdon Potts, Infield, Dubois County Bombers
#5 for the DuBois Bombers is Langdon Potts from Dandridge, Tennessee. This is Langdon's second year playing second base for the CICL as a member of the Dubois team. Langdon attends Carson Newman University where he is coached by Tom Griffin. Potts assisted in the Carson Newman Eagles victory last season to win the SAC Tournament Championship giving the Eagles a spot in the NCAA South Regional Tournament. Langdon had a .390 batting average last season and hit his first home run of this summer's season in Saturday's game, assisting the Bombers in a win over the Quincy GemsTyson Blaser, Catcher, Quincy Gems
Catching for the Quincy Gem's this season is #29 Tyson Blaser of Taylor Ridge, IL. Tyson is coming to the CICL for his first season from Iowa State University where he plays for the Hawkeyes, under Coach Jack Dahm. Tyson graduated from Rockridge High School in 2006 where he received two time all state and four time all conference selection. With a .460 batting average, 16 homeruns, 116 RBI's, and 70 stolen bases, Tyson was also awarded Quad City Male Athlete of the Year his senior year of high school.Eric Smith, RHP, Dubois County Bombers
Wearing # 11 for the Dubois Bombers is right handed pitcher and third baseman Eric Smith. This is Eric’s first year playing with the CICL for the Bombers.
Eric is from Ft. Wayne, IN and has just finished his junior year at Anderson University majoring in History. Eric has been playing with the Anderson University Ravens since 2005 and started all 40 games last year, hitting .314 with seven doubles, two home runs and 26 RBI.
Dave Reynolds, Outfield, DuPage County Dragons
Wearing #2 and playing Outfield for the DuPage Dragons is our profiled player of the week Dave Reynolds. Dave will be a sophomore at Northern Illinois University majoring in Liberal Arts and Sciences. He is from Orland Park, Illinois and attended High School at Carl Sandburg.
Before playing college baseball, Dave earned first-team All-Southwest Suburban Conference and was named all-area by Illinois High School Coaches Association, all- regional, and all-area by Star Newspapers and Daily Southtown. Dave was also named third-team all state by Chicago Sun-Times and special mention all-state by Chicago Tribune in 2006.
As a senior in high school, Dave posted an 8-1 record with 0.59 ERA in 10 starts and four complete games while striking out 63 in 59 innings on the mound.
Pete Paciorek, Field Manager, Danville Dans
Coach Paciorek is beginning his first season as a part of the CICL as the head coach for the Danville Dans.
Before coaching, Paciorek’s playing career began at San Marino High School where he was awarded “State Player of the Year”. While attending Glendale Community College he was chosen “All Conference” and soon after signed a professional contract with the San Diego Padres. Paciorek played with the Padres for 5 years before moving on to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers. During his professional career Paciorek was named “Best Defensive First Baseman” by Baseball America.
After playing nine years of professional baseball Paciorek moved on to coaching at both the high school and college level. As the coach at California State University (Los Angeles) he helped lead the team to achieve their best overall record in school history.
Coach Paciorek has also been a professional baseball instructor at Grand Slam USA and various baseball camps in the San Gabriel Valley for over ten years. Paciorek just finished his first season coaching at the Principia College leading the Panthers to 14 wins, doubling the win totals of each of the previous three seasons.
